Severe Gagging

I want to talk about the gag reflex, which is an involuntary defense mechanism to protect the throat from foreign objects. When triggered, our throat contracts, and the entry to our throat closes off involuntarily. It happens when something touches the back of our tongue, the roof of our mouth, the back of our throat, or around our tonsils.

For some of you, an oversensitive gag reflex can be challenging. Simple activities like brushing your teeth or visiting the dentist can become problematic. As a result, you may miss out on the important benefits of preventive and restorative dental care.

The good news is that we have a solution! If you experience a severe gag reflex, IV sedation can help you undergo dental treatments without discomfort. With IV sedation, you’ll feel relaxed and at ease and your gag will be suppressed.

Your comfort and well-being are essential to us, and we want to make sure you get the best dental care possible. If you have any concerns or questions about your gag reflex and dental treatment, please feel free to talk to us. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
